Giving is almost like a selfish Act Because it makes you feel so good

Community Appreciation – Columbus Metropolitan Library Coat Drive

We extend our deepest gratitude to every individual, business, and community partner who supported our recent coat drive at the Columbus Metropolitan Library in downtown Columbus.

This event was made possible through the generosity of donors who gave warm clothing, hygiene supplies, and resources, as well as volunteers who showed up—setting up, preparing and serving food, distributing clothing, and most importantly, sitting down to share a meal and conversation with our unhoused neighbors. Your presence, compassion, and willingness to serve with dignity made a lasting impact.

As the founder of A Shower Is Power, a 501(c)(3) organization legally established on July 26, 2022, I am proud of the way our community continues to come together even as we work toward larger goals. While we have not yet secured funding for our mobile shower unit—which will require $106,000—we remain committed to serving through grassroots efforts such as clothing giveaways, hygiene care packages, and community-based outreach events.

Looking ahead, we are excited to continue building momentum with upcoming initiatives, including free community concerts, free meals, sandwich distributions this spring, and collaborative outreach with other local organizations. We are also beginning outreach to businesses for warm clothing donations and have secured a storage unit to better support our expanding efforts.

To everyone who donated, volunteered, showed up, or stood alongside us—thank you. Your support affirms that dignity, care, and community are powerful forces for change.

With gratitude,
Pamela Thompson
